On the journey or path of personal development, I think it’s important to stop, and take a look at where I’ve been. Not to stay too long in the past, of course, or I might not be present in the moment . And of course if I truly believe I have everything I need right now, then recognizing past behavior patterns doesn’t have to be where I maintain my focus, but allows me the opportunity to set my focal point on the positive and opens my mind up to the possibilities that exist all around me.
If we get stuck in a story line, something that we’ve encountered that we tell again and again, reliving it, we have a difficult time getting past whatever that situation or experience was. In my recent history, I discovered a behavior pattern that kept repeating. Truthfully I kept attracting the same types of situations and people into my life. And of course rather than seeing my active role in creating these situations, I would complain to my family about the misery I was going through. Over and over. My complaining about the situations became as much a negative pattern as my recreating the situations and circumstances.
Opportunities to Gain Clarity
I saw my life as one big circle. I would create, or attract, something into my life. I could sum it up by saying that my focal point was set on “chaos.” So one chaotic event after another led to another chaotic event or relationship, which created more chaos. It was like a chain reaction. And then, as often happens, I determined that it would be more difficult to stay in that place than it would be to change my situation.
Finally feeling like my awareness was such that I could see what part I actively took in attracting chaos into my life, I had clarity on what NOT to do. Dr. Anthony often talks about our problems or speed bumps, as being great opportunities for clarity. Something unpleasant happens and we can take a moment to recognize that where we are, and where we want to be are very different.
Rather than staying bogged down any longer in the story I kept telling myself and others, and in my case, it was primarily complaining…I took the moments of discomfort to gain clarity on what I did in fact want in my life. My pattern of behavior was to send out my energy in an unfocused way, and unfocused and chaotic situations manifested for me. I truly was a success at manifesting! I just wasn’t doing it with great intent or focus, but the Universe was listening anyway.
A talk show host I often listen to says the Universe is a great eavesdropper. It is hearing you and bringing to you what you’re telling it. This has truly proven itself out for me, time and time again. I feel gratitude that my awareness has shifted, and I am consciously setting my focal point. When I get a glimpse of chaos, rather than focusing on it and manifesting more, I acknowledge it, and then remember that the Universe is waiting to hear from me. Is this what I want? Or is there a better choice available to me in this moment?

“In times of risk or stress (chaos or conflict), cultivate stillness.” I like to remind myself of this simple but potent advice whenever I enter a place where I feel caught (or caught up). I feel grateful to have reached a place in awareness (in my growth process) where I can understand (and appreciate) that the Universe is, indeed, a great eavesdropper, listening intently and waiting patiently for a declaration of my intentions with respect to any given situation, relationship, or set of circumstances, so that, when a point of chaos or conflict arises, I can see and know that this spells opportunity for change, or more generally, for an acquisition, an improvement, or a delicious sense of freedom.
