Speak Your Truth

July 7th, 2008 by Dr. Anthony

Are you an effective communicator? Not in the sense of being a public speaker, or a professional presenter, but in your every day communications? Of course you are. Because everything that you say, affects everyone who hears it, especially YOU.

Your Communication Makes an Impact

If you are humorous by nature, people probably laugh at what you say. If you are an angry person by nature, you probably induce a certain amount of fear. If you’re a loving and charitable person, you might induce warm feelings in others, and so on. Everything you say creates an effect on the person who hears it. If you think about everyone you communicate with during the course of the day, think about the huge impact you make in the lives of others each day!

There’s another person who hears everything you say – is impacted by every statement you make, and that’s you. The other people in your life, they hear only a part of what you say, but you hear every single word.

So consider that the individual effect that you have on others is a cumulative effect that you have upon yourself. Consider this – the power of your words and their effect on molding your life is tremendous.

You Manifest What You Focus On

flower fieldIf you want to be prosperous, don’t talk about lack or scarcity. Doing so will create a feeling of scarcity in other people as well, and the cumulative effect is on you. If you feel sick, don’t talk about your illness. Every person you talk to gets a tiny segment of that impact, but your body receives the whole impact of everything that you say. Other people are affected by what you say, we agree; and you can, if you want, by a kindly word timely spoken, uplift somebody’s life.

If this is true, then surely you can uplift your own life, since you are the recipient of the cumulative effect of every word that you speak. You, then, are molding your own life far more than you affect the life of any of your listeners. Whether it is your own children that you are speaking to, or trying to direct, or whether it is people in the office or people who come to your home, you have an effect on everyone.

Good stuff, Dr. Bob (always wanted to use that line). I’ve always believed that every word I say and action I take when I’m not totally alone impacts the people around me in more ways than one, so I’ve tried to be careful in how I present myself to the masses, even when I’m not on a stage. It becomes a way of life, and isn’t difficult at all.

I appreciate that the words I use, and how I use them, are prime indicators of my state of being. When I take the time and make the effort to be conscious, to assume responsibility for speaking my truth, I do so with the intention of keeping the peace, both within myself and with those with whom I interact, knowing full well that peace (and my inherent claim to peace), serves as my basis for choosing my state of being regardless of the circumstances that surround me. A wonderful post, Dr. A., and all the more wonderful for being succinct and harmonious.
