It seems like as a society we have gotten so used to products and manufacturers offering us a 100% guarantee…”this product will change your life,” or “guaranteed results.” Have we grown accustom to expecting things NOT to work, so therefore we need to be promised or assured that we have “absolutely nothing to lose” before we try something new?
I have a friend who is someone I call a “non-believer.” I’m not talking about religion or heavy hitting philosophies…Paul just does NOT believe in anything. His focus is most definitely on things NOT working in his life. For instance, last Spring he wanted to find a new place to live. The place he was in wasn’t meeting his needs. So I said, “there are a lot of places for rent listed in the newspaper.” And his response was “Yeah and they are all too small, or too expensive, or too…” He hadn’t even looked at the newspaper, but my non-believer friend already knew that there was just not going to be anything that met his needs.
Fear is a Form of Resistance
My friend could come to me with any issue and the outcome of the conversation would be pretty much the same. Nothing ever works out for him. He is afraid. He is afraid that if something does in fact “work out” for him, he’ll have to look at his life as filled with possibilities rather than limitations. He is more comfortable focusing on the negative, because he sees his life as a struggle, and then manifests experiences that keep his story true.
One day I said to Paul, “what if I could give you a 100% guarantee that things were going to go well for you? What if I could share with you how you could change your life for the better today?” He was skeptical, and I’d come to expect that from him, but I continue to hold the belief that anyone can choose awareness at any point in their journey. What was true for them yesterday does not have to be what is true for them TODAY.
I went on to say, “Look, you have nothing to lose. Give this a try for 21 days and if you don’t experience results, simply forget what I’ve told you, and return to your old habits without hesitation or obligation.” It was no surprise when he wrinkled his nose at me and asked what the heck I was trying to sell. I told him I wasn’t selling him anything. But if he was willing to shift his behaviors just a tiny bit, for 21 days, I could guarantee he would experience things in a different way. I could also guarantee he’d feel better. He only had to make the slightest shift, for a few days.

Results Guaranteed
This was my pitch:
- Wake up in the morning and take just 60 seconds to feel grateful for the things in your life that bring you joy (in his case, his daughter topped the list, followed by his job, and his creative abilities)
- When you experience something that disappoints you, recognize the feeling, and decide that whatever it is, you can be sure it’s only temporary
- Reflect for a few minutes each day on a time when you felt truly successful and happy
- Repeat the 60 seconds of gratitude reflection at least once more during the day
- Before bed each night, mentally review your day in your head and pay special attention to the things that went “right” that day
Now the jury is still out with my friend. He’s only a few days into this 21 day, “results guaranteed” experiment. I am convinced that he will experience more joy, less discontent, and feel more hopeful within a few days. It comes down to the idea that if we keep doing the same things, we keep getting the same results. Guaranteed.

Give. Give and be grateful to receive. Give, without conditions, and feel the disappointment when nothing is returned. Reflect on those moments when you feel good about giving, and then give some more. Review those moments in your day when you could give and when you could receive. Lose the fear of giving; keep giving, and you’ll invariably keep receiving - guaranteed.
Non attachment to the material things is key to release from fear. Yes you can still have all the wealth you desire ,toys, the good things in life, but it is the fear of losing them and the thought that if someone has more ,bigger , better than you then you havn`t really made it.
