Our ego plays an incredibly powerful role in our personal development journey. It’s tricked us into believing things about us that simply aren’t true: that we’re inadequate, not smart enough, we lack follow through or focus, and a lot of other false beliefs. These false beliefs damage our self-esteem and self-image. So how do we move around that pesky ego, and being creating the lives we desire?
Freedom from Ego Begins by Accepting Yourself
Begin by accepting yourself. Love who you are. You’ve heard it before: you can only love others when you love yourself. Accept yourself, your mistakes, the times when your actions weren’t in alignment with your Authentic Self. When you love yourself unconditionally, you can neutralize your ego and the sabotaging belief system that has kept you in a state of resistance, interfering with your ability to manifest and create your life by design.
Whatever we assume is true, becomes our reality.
We experience what we deeply believe to be true. So it stands to reason that we should consciously, and deeply believe ourselves to be worthy, deserving, and live without judgment of ourselves and others. Just as we are spiritually complete and whole, so is everyone else.
Your Authentic Self is Perfect
We have all created ourselves through traits and mannerisms. We have facial expressions, gestures, beliefs…that we’ve borrowed or imitated, or made our own. Since you are complete and whole, it stands to reason that you should accept, love, and value yourself, your traits, your mannerisms. Our self esteem and self-image become damaged when we compare ourselves to who we think we should be. Accepting and loving ourselves is key to manifesting and attracting what we desire.
What if you have traits that tend to sabotage your personal development? Because you created the traits, you can change the traits. Any time you want. You are in a perpetual state of change, and you have the unique talent and ability to create whatever you wish. It’s never hopeless. Let’s say you discover that you’re not who you thought you were, or you are not taking conscious action to create the things you want. There’s no disaster here, if anything, it’s the beginning of the end of this perceived disaster.
Replace Negative Thoughts With Positive Thoughts
Never reject yourself or treat yourself unkindly for the actions you’ve taken or traits you have. Having healthy self esteem and a positive self image means rejecting any sabotaging or negative thoughts about yourself. When you find yourself comparing yourself to the image of what you think you should be, based on beliefs from family, peers, or your mate, stop and consciously see yourself as the amazing being you truly are. Replace negative thoughts and beliefs with loving and positive affirmations or statements. It’s one of the best strategies I know of to move past that pesky ego and live in a state of acceptance and harmony.

Your self-image will always determine how far you will go in life.
In 1960, a classic book “Psycho-Cybernetics” was published, and it stressed the importance of the image we hold of ourselves (self image).
Our self image is like a thermostat (or auto-pilot of an airplane). The thermostat makes sure that the temperature will not raise or fall beyond a predefined range. The self image will determine that we get exactly that what we expect.
