Keys to Having Confidence

July 28th, 2008 by Zoey Jordan

What would it be like if you lived your life with confidence? Maybe you already do. Perhaps you’re confident in new situations, and you feel confident in your abilities, you feel confident in your choices. You’d be in the minority of people if you felt confident all the time.

There are four qualities that confident people possess. The first is imagination. You imagine yourself as the person you want to become, not focusing on how you see yourself now. It’s typical for people to focus on the things about themselves they don’t like, or that don’t praise their unique talents or abilities. Our inner critic often stifles our self esteem or image of self.

Feel Commitment Toward Your Goals

To be confident, you must possess commitment. Think of the statement, “I will…” This sounds a lot different than “I wish I could…” or “Maybe I will…” or “If only I could…” Consider a young child, I mean really young. How long does an infant or toddler commit himself to learn how to walk? Until he walks. He doesn’t waiver, and he doesn’t stop trying. He just commits to it, and keeps at it until it comes to him. So on the converse, how long should you commit yourself to reach your goals? Until you reach them. When you are committed, nothing can stop you, you don’t waiver and you don’t lose your focus.

Imagine yourself as you wish to be. Then commit to manifesting your goals. The next step is affirmation. Affirm that you will experience success. You can do this by using positive self talk, which is positive thinking spoken aloud. Your self esteem, your confidence will grow, and others will begin to believe in your eventual success. As others start seeing you as a success, they want to help you. Your confidence grows.  Have you ever heard the saying that “nothing succeeds like success?” That’s what I’m talking about.

Persistence is the final component of confidence. You must remain consistent, focused, and not give up, even when obstacles present themselves. Patience and persistence are key to achieving anything. Make the decision that defeat is not worth your attention.
